Having fearless, carefree, determined, peaceful, unshakeable spirit (part 1)
The best kind of service involves complete dedication and generosity. While meditating, consider whether a person who is a complete renunciate would have any fear. A person who has sacrificed everything, who has nothing to call their own, and who serves everyone humbly and lovingly should not fear anything.
Why, then, do people experience worry and fear? What are the types of fears they face today? What signs indicate that someone is suffering from fear and anxiety?
1. Fear of Death and Harm to the Body: One common fear is the fear of death. Many people fear suffering from a serious illness or experiencing pain after a negative event. They may worry about their own health and the well-being of their friends. For instance, if a doctor identifies a serious medical condition, the patient’s health may begin to deteriorate further upon hearing this news. They might start to complain and blame the universe for their situation, growing increasingly worried by their fear of death. When a close friend learns of their illness, they may react with shock, their face turning pale, eyes filled with tears, out of concern for their friend’s life. Although the doctor might not indicate that survival is impossible, the very name of the disease can frighten the patient’s family and lead to anxiety about what might happen next.
This type of tension and worry stems from attachment, conscious overthinking of negative actions, and the subconscious mind. People often fear losing their bodies because they love them so much or because they worry about dying without having accumulated good karma. Their concerns revolve around the pain they might endure and what kind of rebirth they will experience afterward. Such tension arises from a lack of determination and positive actions.
2. Fear of People's Opinions and Condemnation: Another significant worry is the fear of others' opinions and potential condemnation. Individuals may feel anxious about what people will think of their actions. This worry also stems from a lack of willpower, knowledge, and self-determination. When a person is truly self-determined, they realise that their choices are well-considered and made for their own welfare. Consequently, they should not fear judgment from others.
Additionally, having good communication skills, policy-making abilities, and effective behavioural tactics can foster confidence in facing societal opinions and questions. Without these skills, individuals may lack self-confidence, making it difficult to confront the world around them. By fixating on their perceived weaknesses, they fall into the trap of worry and forget their strengths.
