Letting Go of Mental Ego, and accepting Divine Guidance

Surrendering the Intellect: From Ego to Inner Wisdom

A person who feels proud of their intellect can reflect in this way: "My intellect was once completely misguided, but now the Supreme Father, Supreme Soul, Shiv, has begun to transform it. Earlier, my intellect was impure and negative. The Bestower of divine intellect, the Supreme Father, Supreme Soul, Shiv Baba, is now turning my iron-like intellect into something as valuable as gold. God is the One who gives true understanding and right wisdom. It is He alone who has granted this elevated will, this spiritual knowledge, and this clear understanding."

Then, just as a tiny mouse might start thinking of itself as a great shopkeeper after finding a single piece of spice, in the same way, after receiving a little spiritual knowledge, I may begin to think of myself as very wise. But in truth, I need to become "dead while alive"—which means letting go of my past ego, habits, and beliefs and starting a completely new life guided by Shiv Baba.

If I do not surrender my intellect to Shiv Baba, how will it become refined and elevated? How will He empower it? If I remain trapped in the ego of my own ideas, how will my understanding change or grow? Therefore, I must let go of my attachment to my limited intellect and follow the path of Shrimat—that is, acting according to the spiritual knowledge and divine principles given by Shiv Baba. I am not yet complete or perfect; I have only learned a little so far. My own intellect, when driven by ego and body-consciousness, has never truly uplifted me—so why should I cling to a state that keeps me spiritually impure and unhappy?

To receive divine guidance, I first need to become quiet inside. When the mind is noisy with opinions, arguments, and memories, I cannot clearly feel God’s direction. So I create moments of stillness—through meditation, heartfelt remembrance of Shiv Baba, honest self-reflection, and following Shrimat in practical life. As I repeatedly surrender my ego and sincerely ask, “Baba, what is Your direction in this situation?”, I begin to recognise inner signals of peace, clarity, and rightness. Gradually, I learn to distinguish between the voice of my ego and the gentle, pure guidance that comes from the Supreme.
