The Beauty of Being Simple
Simplicity
A simple person is the same inside and outside – in intention, words, and mindset. He is not different in his thoughts and his outward behavior. He does not behave in a deceitful, crooked, or manipulative way. Because of this, people feel worry‑free around him and enjoy his honest, innocent, and sweet words.
If a simple person says something that others do not like, even then they do not get as angry with him as they would with someone who has deceived them, because they know that this person’s heart is clean. He has not said anything to put them down or to create danger for them; whatever he thought for their good, he has spoken simply and directly. Even if they feel upset with him for a while, soon their own mind tells them from within, “It is not right to be angry with such a person, nor is it right to speak badly to him.” Thus, they quickly and naturally form bonds of affection with him, because his simplicity, truthfulness, clarity of mind, and innocence attract them.
Just as people feel satisfied with a person of simple behavior, in the same way, a simple person also remains content within himself. Even if he feels a little inner dissatisfaction due to some situation, after just a few words of guidance he becomes peaceful again very quickly, because of his simple nature.
A person with a crooked nature, on the other hand, keeps searching for hidden meanings in others’ words.
Even when something is said with good feelings and for his benefit, he only checks whether there is some deceit or lie hidden in it. In this way, he does not accept anything said about him in a pure and straightforward way, even after hearing it from many people many times. As a result, he does not experience quick transformation in his lifestyle and sanskars (inner tendencies).
Due to the clean heart of a simple person, he is able to imbibe other divine virtues very quickly. But a cunning and overly clever person does not imbibe divine virtues easily, because his mind is always busy in some confusion. He sometimes thinks, “That person did not behave nicely with me in the past. How can he behave nicely with me now? Till now he has not been good; he does not seem likely to change in the future!”
A simple person, however, remains absorbed in inner joy and thinks, “Whatever someone does, he will receive accordingly.” He does not leave his integrity under any circumstance.
According to the saying, “The master is pleased with the truthful; he receives help from God.” Thus, with the help of the true God (the Supreme Soul, Shiv Baba), by not holding pain or ill‑feeling for anyone, by remaining free from confusion, and by not bringing others’ past behavior or current nature into his mind, a simple person stays happy and content.
As a result, due to his straightforward nature, his truthfulness, and his clear mind, other people also bless him and love him. Therefore, a simple person always remains happy and content within himself.
Other people trust a simple person…
