One Fear That Frees You From All Others

Only one kind of fear and one kind of tension is truly beneficial.

All other kinds of fear are troublesome and full of loss, and all other worries are like a funeral pyre. But there is one special fear and one special concern that are beneficial: the fear of being punished by Yam, and the concern to remain in Shiv Baba’s remembrance. In reality, through this elevated fear and this concern, a person is saved from committing wrong actions, performs powerful actions, and frees himself by remembering God.

One who keeps just this one fear and this one concern frees himself from all other fears and worries. Step by step, he becomes free from inner disturbance and anxiety.

Therefore, a person should decorate himself with the divine ornaments and weapons symbolized by the conch, chakra, mace, lotus, etc. He should see the whole world as a drama, use spiritual knowledge as his armour, and keep firm faith in himself and in God. There is benefit in faith, and victory in determination. That is why it is said: the soul who has faith is victorious, and the one who doubts is defeated. Where there is true faith, victory is guaranteed. And if we have taken the true company of God, then victory is certain. This has been praised in the Gita. Hence, there is no need for any other kind of fear or tension.

Is there any other kind of nervousness?

You may ask: Is there another kind of nervousness, like the reaction, “Oh no! What has happened?”

In fact, such nervousness is also a form of fear and worry. Whatever has happened—after hearing it, seeing it, or thinking about it—if a person’s face becomes blank, stunned, or full of anxiety, these are signs that he has become fearful. If even a small loss occurs, a person who is habituated to fear and tension immediately exclaims, “What has happened?” As he says this, the lines on his face change, his expression changes, and his eyes also change.

In reality, this should not happen at all. Whatever had to happen has already happened, and it has happened according to the prewritten future of the world drama. We should not doubt this even slightly, nor say, “This did not happen correctly!” This world drama is written so accurately that there is no scope for correction or amendment. Whatever happens in it, moment by moment, has a reason and a deep spiritual mystery behind it, whether we can see it or not.

To say, “This has not happened correctly,” or, “If this had not happened, then this result would not have come,” is all wasteful thinking. It is a waste of time and power, and it is an expression of one’s false ego.

Whatever has happened, is happening, and will happen, occurs according to the eternally fixed script of this drama. Our duty is to perform our actions in a pure, stable and elevated way. Instead of thinking about changing the scenes of the drama, a person should begin to change himself. When he changes himself, his future also changes. He frees his mind from fear and tension and is able to remain in a stable, constant state of peace.

The right response to events

By remembering this eternal drama, one should not react with astonishment, nervousness, fear or worry, saying, “What has happened?” Instead, if someone else asks us, “What has happened?” we can answer:

“Don’t you know what has happened? The Confluence Age has come. The divine incarnation of Lord Shiva has taken place. He has given this spiritual knowledge through Prajapita Brahma. Such a wonderful thing has happened!”

After saying this, we should turn our own and others’ attention toward spiritual knowledge. If something surprising occurs, instead of using words like “fear” and “nervousness,” we can say, “A wonderful thing has happened!” or “Oh, this has happened—let us not worry.” Then we can gently close or lighten the discussion by saying, “Whatever has happened, let it go. Now let us increase the speed of our spiritual efforts.”

By adopting such elevated thoughts and subtle methods, the state of the mind remains stable, light, and powerful.
