Surrender to God: How Detachment Destroys Fear and Tension

Free from Fear and Tension by Becoming an Observer

When we truly understand that “the world is a drama,” we can use this wisdom as a protective armor in practical life. Then, tension and fear lose their power to attack us, and we begin to see everything as a detached observer. We even see our own part in such a way that it feels as if it belongs to someone else, and we ourselves are simply watching as a witness.

In that stage, a person is no longer troubled by thoughts like, “I don’t know what will happen” or “How will everything work out?” Instead of being filled with anxiety, he becomes full of powerful, elevated thoughts. While making his best efforts, he remains constantly watchful, detached, and free from wasteful thinking. His inner attitude becomes: “Whatever has to happen will happen. Whatever has happened many times before will happen again. I will watch it all, in the future as well, as an observer.” Many times he has played this part before. Remembering this, he becomes free from tension and worry, because he has handed all his concerns to Parmatma and has adopted a saintly stage. And when one becomes like a saint, what fear can remain? What tension can remain?

A saint remembers God and hands over all other worries to Him. Such a person acts only with God’s permission and in accordance with His elevated, benevolent guidance. One who moves according to God’s directions—what fear could such a soul have? What cause would there be for tension? In this way, he does not experience any stress in his intellect; instead, he constantly experiences an inner lightness.

If someone comes to him in fear or under tension and asks, “What will happen now?” he simply answers, “Whatever happened 500 years ago will happen again.” Saying this, he looks at that person as a detached observer, stable in a stage of equality and inner balance.

If a loss, defeat, or any adverse situation arises, and someone says to him, “This is terrible! You have suffered so much damage because of this. Now what will you do? What will happen to your xyz thing?” he replies, “Brother, this is nothing new! This has happened countless times before. Why should we fear it? This is a pre‑written drama. Whatever is to happen in the future, we will simply remain observers. Why should we become tense about it? Why should we create waste thoughts?”

What truly deserves our attention is the remembrance of Shiv Baba, performing elevated actions, and burning the burden of negative karmas accumulated over many ages through the power of yoga. If we don’t do this, we will have to face the justice of Dharamraj. This is the only real concern—and it is a beneficial one. All other worries are wasteful; such thoughts are unnecessary and futile.
