The Armour of Knowledge: Conquering Fear in the World Drama

We learned about the weapons of knowledge and yoga with which a person can easily overcome the storms of Maya. Yet, even with such powerful weapons, if a person has no shield or protection, a subtle fear still lingers in the mind. That armour : The knowledge of the world drama.

The reason for fear and tension is that we repeatedly forget that this world is a drama, a very big movie. Whatever is meant to happen in this drama—whatever scenes were filmed since time immemorial—those very scenes are bound to appear now. This is a repeated drama. Whatever happened in the previous show, which means 5,000 years ago, is bound to happen again now. Nothing different from that is going to happen.

Hence, it is said: “It is being made ready; now nothing is made.” No change can be made in this. This film has been made based on our karma. Whatever karma we performed in our previous era has already decided our future. Therefore, whatever has to happen cannot be made impossible by us. So what is the need to worry, and what is the need to fear? That is why it is said: “We should worry only if something impossible is happening.”

Nothing can be changed through fear and worry. Then what is the meaning or use of fear and worry? We should simply do this much: make our best effort from our side, give our best endeavours, and whatever the result may be, remain an observer of it. After all, what can we do apart from hard work, effort, endeavour, and action? If a situation can be changed, it can be changed only through our actions.

Therefore, we should perform the best karma, with high enthusiasm and full devotion, but the tension about the future or making ourselves sad with fear is not added to the karmic account of good actions. Instead, it is counted in the account of ‘alternatives,’ ‘vices,’ and ‘forbidden actions’—in the account of bad actions that give ourselves pain, in the account of corrupted yoga, in the account of doubt in God, in the account of timidity, and in the account of becoming guilty in our own eyes by blocking our own efforts.

When there are so many defects and burdens hidden in fear and worry, why should we allow fear and its sister, worry, to enter our mind? What is the point of letting them in? When this world is a drama and a play, then we should truly consider it a play. We should simply observe gain and loss, and we should not become afraid when loss appears on the stage.
